Private wine tastings are an informal, fun way to sip, talk,
and learn about wine. Tastings can be informal or a structured
wine education class – and everything in between. (See
Wine Tasting Themes for tasting or class ideas.)
Where are tastings held?
Events can be held wherever tasters desire within a 30 mile
radius of Ankeny. For parties further away, mileage
and other costs may apply.
What is the format of the tastings?
Most tastings are part of a general party atmosphere. The
wine tastings work within the overall mood and flow of the party.
They are also educational with enough structure to keep events
flowing. Formal, educational wine tastings are also
an option.
How many people can I invite?
That’s up to you. The kind of event you are planning
and the location may determine the size of your tasting.
What do I need to provide?
Water, crackers and/or bread are essential. Cheese
and fruit are nice options for tasters.
What about wine glasses?
I bring the wine glasses which are 10 ounce international tasting
glasses.
How many wines are tasted?
For a one hour tasting, 4-5 wines are needed. For a
2 hour tasting, 6-7 wines are recommended.
What does a tasting cost?
The first cost is the wine. The host decides on an average
cost per bottle ranging from a minimum recommended price
per bottle of $10 to high end wines depending on your event and
your guests. The second cost is the service cost. The cost
for my services is $50 per hour. If you have a large
group, additional personnel may be needed.
